The Sedona Bottling Company in Phoenix, Arizona is taking “locally sourced” to the next level with their new artesian spring water, Purely Sedona, sourced from the Arizona desert. The craft whiskey-inspired beverage hits the Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Southern California markets soon in an absolutely gorgeous glass bottle designed by O-I. Here, Cady Gokey, president of Sedona Bottling Company, gives us the skinny on going artesian and choosing glass for its beauty.
What was the motivation to create the Purely Sedona brand of water? What makes it stand out?
Sourced from Sedona, a breathtaking oasis in the heart of the Arizona desert, it was important that the Purely Sedona brand truly captured and resembled the essence of the origin as well as the exceptional quality of the water. Purely Sedona water undergoes a natural filtration process that yields a pH of 8, which means the taste is noticeably purer than its competitors.
Why did you make the decision to package in glass bottles?
We chose glass bottles for Purely Sedona because it was the most natural way to convey the water’s quality. Glass is also best suited for our target audiences of fine dining restaurants, luxury hotels, resorts and spas, and private events.
Purely Sedona will be available in three sizes of glass bottles (750ml, 500ml, and 330ml) in still and sparkling water, as well as two PET options (500ml, 1L) for the still product.
How was the bottle design conceived? How do you anticipate it will resonate with consumers?
Early on in the conception it was decided the look of Purely Sedona needed a look that was all its own. Given the large water category, differentiation proved to be a challenge.
Ultimately, the bottle and label design for Purely Sedona were inspired by the look of small batch whiskey. Everything from the feel and size of the bottle to the texture of the label was chosen with the intent to give the consumer a piece of the beauty and majesty that is Sedona, AZ.
What’s next for Purely Sedona?
The primary focus for the first quarter of 2016 is launching the still and sparkling glass product in the local Phoenix/Scottsdale market. Regional expansion will follow in Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Southern California.
We’re excited about the retail and distribution partners we have lined up. We’re also planning a subscription program for the brand so that tourists visiting Sedona and the Grand Canyon will be able to purchase the product after they return home.
